OH, WHISTLE AND I'LL COME TO YOU, MY LAD'
SYNOPSIS:
M. R. James is one of the finest English
language ghost story writers ever published. These short stories are not
only classics of their genre, but are outstanding examples of
beautifully paced, understated terror and sociological horror - reaching
into the dark expanse of the unconscious mind…
This collection includes some of his
most popular stories: 'Oh Whistle, and I'll come to you, my
lad', 'A School Story', 'Casting the Runes', 'Rats', 'There was
a Man Dwelt by a Churchyard', 'Number 13', 'Lost Hearts', 'The
Stalls of Barchester Cathedral', 'The Mezzotint', 'The Ash
Tree', 'A View from a Hill', 'The Tractate Middoth' and 'Canon
Alberic's Scrapbook'.
M. R. James is "...gifted with an
almost diabolic power of calling horror by gentle steps from the
midst of prosaic daily life. Dr. James has, it is clear, an
intelligent and scientific knowledge of human nerves and
feelings; and knows just how to apportion statement, imagery,
and subtle suggestions in order to secure the best results with
his readers." - H.P. Lovecraft
“If you love gothic horror do
yourself a favour and buy this CD; great stories read by
excellent actors, what more could you ask for? 10 out of 10.” -
ScifiOnline
Previously released in separate
volumes in 2007.
