Following
the success of Journey into Space in print, Fantom Publishing is
thrilled to announce we have won the rights to re-print another
iconic cult institution – Children of the Stones.
Based on the 1977
HTV series starring Gareth Thomas and Freddie Jones, Fantom will be
re-printing the original novelisation written by Jeremy Burnham and
Trevor Ray. Children of the Stones continues to be popular, topping
numerous polls and votes… “If I knew the formula, I would bottle it”
admits actor and writer Jeremy “…people never seem to have lost
interest in the story since the TV series first appeared.”
Furthermore, we will
releasing the brand new sequel; Return to the Stones which
takes place thirty years after the original tale. Matthew Brake is
now an astrophysicist like his father Adam before him. Recently
divorced, Matthew brings his young American son Tom back to Milbury.
Despite Adam’s assurances, however, it turns out that all is far
from well when, soon after their arrival, Adam, Matthew and Tom are
plunged into a new nightmare…
Both books will be
released in Hardback this June, priced £14.99 each. However for a
limited time we will be offering both books - signed for £25. To

JONATHAN CROALL'S FORGOTTEN
STARS
Following
the sensational success of the silent film The Artist,
author Jonathan Croall, best known for his widely
praised theatrical biographies of John Gielgud and Sybil
Thorndike, now focuses on the career of his father -
John Stuart.
John Stuart was one of the
most popular stars of the British silent cinema, a
screen lover who starred opposite all the leading
actresses, an actor whose fan club was equal to that of
Ivor Novello. Yet although a few of his 55 silent films
survive, like most other stars of the 1920s he is all
but forgotten today.
Now, drawing on a unique
family archive, Jonathan Croall has brought his father
back into the spotlight, charting his rapid rise to
stardom in vivid detail. He also brings to life many
other stars of the day, while exploring the work of
directors such as the young Alfred Hitchcock, Maurice
Elvey, Anthony Asquith and Victor Saville.
In Forgotten Stars he examines the stars’ working
conditions, sheds light on the physical perils of
filming, and looks at the pressures the stars faced from
their fans, the press, and the lure of Hollywood. He
also explores the arguments then raging about the rival
merits of stage and screen, and describes the
devastating impact of the arrival of the ‘talkies’,
which affected so many careers, many of them tragically.

SHEILA STEAFEL'S BASTARDS -
OUT NOW IN PRINT AND ON AUDIO
Comedienne
Sheila Steafel best known for her roles in The
Frost Report, The Good Old Days and The Ghosts of
Motley Hall joins Fantom Publishing to finally
reveal those Bastards!
When I read through the final draft of my
autobiography, I decided to take out several anecdotes
about my personal life, simply because they seemed a
sort of indulgence, and didn’t add to what I wanted to
say about my life and my career. They were hiccups along
the way with some attacks worse than others, but all
were finally ‘got rid’ (as my cousin Lillian used to
say). I put them in a file which I called BASTARDS for
my own amusement, and thought no more about them until
my book came out and I was being asked what my next
writing project would be. For want of anything else to
say I would reply BASTARDS, and the response was so
positive that what had started as a whim began to take
on substance.
Bastards is now
available in Hardback (£14.99), and also
on audio, read by Sheila herself (£13.99) - click
here for more
information.

DAVE BARTRAM: A ROCK 'N'
ROLL NIGHTMARE!
Fantom is pleased to
announce we shall be publishing Dave Bartram’s
rock’n’roll nightmare memoir entitled The Boys of
Summer!
During the
1970's, teddy-boy draped rock & roll band
SHOWADDYWADDY had a run of chart success unparalled
by any other artist or band. In 2005 they were still
touring, but by then the heady days of teeny-bop
hysteria were long gone. Offered a summer run of 33
holiday camp dates, the band took the fast buck and
subsequently entered into uncharted territory…
“Three days into the tour whilst
chatting with the boys, we discussed what a fantastic
‘fly on the wall’ documentary the tour would make, and
for the first time in my lengthy career I began
diarising the uproarious daily events” says
lead singer (and later manager) Dave
Bartram. “Roughly
half-way through the stint, after experiencing tragedy,
frustration and innumerable ‘you couldn’t make it up’
dilemmas, I just had to put pen to paper and show
readers just how unglamorous the world of rock & roll
can be!”
From
experiencing 'life in the fast lane,' they were about to
undergo 'a breakdown on the hard-shoulder!'
“The Boys of Summer is not
written with only music fans in mind,” continues
Dave “…it
is largely a humorous account of a bunch of musicians
trying to come to terms with rather unfamiliar
surroundings, along with a series of quite unimaginable
events. This is a book that will appeal to people with a
broad sense of humour, and to well-oiled holiday-makers
perched on a couch by the pool in sunnier climbs!”
In this
bitter-sweet account Dave candidly recollects the
extraordinary occurrences of 10 weeks in the UK's bucket
& spade resorts, which strained every emotion to
breaking point!
The Boys of Summer will be
available in special edition hardback; exclusively
direct from Fantom
this December, priced
£19.99! Pre-order now!

MARY TAMM (1950 - 2012)
Chip
butties and Yorkshire tea. Not something you'd instantly
associate with Mary Tamm. But that was indeed the less
than starry request Mary made when we worked together
for the first time, recording an audio book. But then
there were so many varied and beautiful shades to Mary's
character, that it took some time to get close enough to
be able to appreciate them all.
Equally as home
in a Whimpy bar or dining at The Ivy, or drinking a
builder's brew or a sophisticated soya latte, Mary was
the sum of her patchwork background; her Estonia
parents, her Northern upbringing, and then her life in
London. To all around she was an exceptionally glamorous
and sophisticated lady, but to us, she was our funny and
brilliant friend. And we shall miss her, and all the
Tammspam.
