PLAYING
MURDER
Written
by Simon Brett, a prolific writer of
whodunnits in the Golden Age tradition of
detective fiction, Murder in Play is
a unique comedy thriller which will
entertain the audience with its wickedly
clever mix of eccentric characters, complex
plot twists and gentle humour. The
production stars Dean Gaffney,
best known for his eleven years as Robbie
Jackson in EastEnders who
is also a noted stage actor, Gemma
Bissix, another EastEnders
star as a child but better known
these days for her award-winning role as the
villainous Clare Devine in Hollyoaks
and Katy Manning, the
iconic Doctor Who assistant
Jo Grant, They are joined by respected stage
and television actors David
Callister and Richard Tate.
The dress rehearsal of Boris Smolensky’s
production, “Murder at Priorswell Manor,” is
not going well. The actors are more
interested in their egos than the play, the
props seem to have a life of their own, and
the director has personal problems!
Suddenly fiction becomes reality when
Boris’s wife, Renee is murdered on stage.
Who is the murderer? Was it Ginette, Boris’s
pretty but not exactly clever mistress? Was
it Renee’s acting rival and former TV soap
star, Christa? Or was it Boris himself?
Using a play-within-a-play device, the
fictional theatre company keeps the audience
guessing with numerous clues about the
murderer until the final, thrilling
denouement.
Mixing the intrigue of an Agatha Christie
together with hilarious characters and a
sophisticated story-line makes ‘Murder in
Play’ a great evening out for all ages.

KATY MANNING stars in A
MURDER IS ANNOUNCED

A Murder Is Announced
by Agatha Christie
The villagers of Chipping Cleghorn are
agog with curiosity over an advertisement in the local gazette
which reads: ‘A murder is announced and will take place on
Friday October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6.30 p.m.’
A childish practical joke? Or a hoax intended to scare poor
Letitia Blacklock? Unable to resist the mysterious invitation, a
crowd begins to gather at Little Paddocks at the appointed time
when, without warning, the lights go out....
What follows is a classic Christie puzzle
of mixed motives, concealed identities, a determined Inspector
grimly following the twists and turns and the inimitable Miss
Marple on hand to provide the final solution in a dramatic
confrontation scene just before the final curtain.
The production stars Dean Gaffney,
best known for his eleven years as Robbie Jackson in
EastEnders who is also a noted stage actor,
Gemma Bissix, another EastEnders star
as a child but better known these days for her award-winning
role as the villainous Clare Devine in Hollyoaks
and Katy Manning, the iconic
Doctor Who assistant Jo Grant.
One of Agatha Christie’s best mysteries,
this production also boasts a fascinating cast of characters and
an affectionate picture of a post WWII English village in which
Ian Dickens Productions will yet again deliver an evening of
intriguing plots, subterfuge and murder by the Mistress of
Whodunits.

COMPANION CHRONICLES THE
SCORCHIES
You think you know what Katy Manning can do? You ain’t seen
nothing yet… After wowing us for years as Iris Wildthyme and Jo
Grant, in March Katy will be taking on a host of bizarre
characters (while playing Jo) in
Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles
–
The Scorchies.
And, to add to the challenge, she’ll be performing songs in this
musical
Doctor Who
story.
“'Challenge me’ – that’s what Katy always says when we discuss
her upcoming
Companion Chronicles,”
says producer David Richardson. “I think she’s just about
forgiven me for this challenge!”
In
the story, the Doctor and Jo are investigating a Saturday night
puppet show called
The Scorchies,
only to discover that these bizarre singing puppets are actually
invaders from another dimension… “This was an amazing production
to work on – Katy and her co-star Melvyn Hayes rehearsed for two
weeks before the recording, and came in and blew us away with
their performances. The music and lyrics, written by Richard Fox
and Lauren Yason, are outstanding. Believe me – you’ll have
these songs in your head for weeks after listening to this
story.” |
